During its July 26th meeting, the RSCVA Board of Directors received the organization’s annual report on the state of tourism for Fiscal Year 2017–2018. Visitation trends have continued climbing.
At its September 27th meeting, the RSCVA Board of Directors received a recap on Interbike MarketWeek – the 66th-largest trade show in North America – which took place in multiple locations throughout the destination from September 14th through the 20th.
The results of a months-long feasibility study on the impacts of potentially expanding the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC) were presented to the RSCVA Board of Directors at its June 28th meeting. Johnson Consulting of Chicago detailed how a future expansion of the center would help diversify demand in the economy, acting as a powerful hedge against economic downturns and drive higher room rates in the Reno Tahoe area.
During its May 24th meeting, the RSCVA Board of Directors unanimously approved the budget for Fiscal Year 2018–2019, which begins July 1st. Included are significant investments for needed capital improvements, and increased funding for marketing and supporting new air service.
At its March 22 meeting, the RSCVA Board of Directors approved a four-year management agreement for the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC), the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center (RSLEC), the Reno Events Center (REC) and the National Bowling Stadium (NBS) to SMG, a worldwide entertainment and convention venue management company.
At the February 22, 2018 Board of Directors meeting, the RSCVA Board and staff enthusiastically elected to move forward with engaging SMG, an international convention and entertainment venue management company, to begin operating four facilities currently managed by the RSCVA.
As we near the end of 2017, it is my pleasure to provide a brief update on a development that has been in consideration by the RSCVA and two other public agencies for nearly two years.
The Reno Tahoe region is experiencing a revolutionary period of growth and is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing business destinations in the country. Numerous redevelopment and investment projects have been spurred by a boom in manufacturing, e-commerce and technology.
