RENO, Nev. (Dec. 29, 2025) – Two American masters records were set this past weekend at the Reno Tahoe Indoor Track inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center during the USATF Pacific Association Holiday Invitational (Dec. 27–28).

David Gibbon of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, ran 24.30 seconds in the men’s 200 meters on Saturday to set a new American masters record in the 60-64 age group. The performance broke the previous U.S. mark of 24.32, set in 2011, and was 0.02 seconds off the world record.

On Sunday, Bill Harvey of Goleta, Calif., threw 13.47 meters in the men’s shot put to set a new American masters record in the 80-84 age group. The mark broke the previous U.S. best of 12.78, set in 2015, and was 0.21 meters off the world best.

The records come during Season 2 of indoor track & field at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center — home to Nevada’s first and only World Athletics-certified indoor track. Built to elite competition standards, the 200-meter banked, Mondo-manufactured track features World Athletics-certified equipment by UCS and is eligible to host all levels of competition, from youth and club meets to high-profile collegiate events.

“When you see two American records fall in a single weekend — and both performances coming within a blink of world bests — it’s a powerful reminder of what this world-class facility was built to do,” said Visit Reno Tahoe President and CEO Mike Larragueta. “The Reno Tahoe Indoor Track is officially on the map, and we’re proud to welcome athletes from across the West to compete here while bringing meaningful business to our hotels, restaurants and local community during the winter season.”

The indoor track is scheduled to host 12 meets this winter, drawing competitors from across the West and supporting sports travel during the traditionally slower winter months. Last year’s inaugural season drew more than 5,000 registered athletes, coaches and families and contributed to more than 12,000 room nights and an estimated $6 million in economic impact.
